News for those who wish to Donate to this years Yard Sale & Rummage (including your own table) set for July 26, 2008 75 The Great Road

Our Partner Church Committee is sponsoring a yard sale on Saturday, July 26, 9-3 on the common along with the Fundraising Events Planning Committee conducting a cloths rummage and Boutique in our Common Room.
Have your own Table start selling early if you like.

For $25 some may want to take advantage of the crowd and free advertising to set up a church provided table in an 8’ x 10’ space along the common sidewalk. Contact Rich Daugherty (email richdaugh@aol.com or call 781-275-1892) to reserve a table.
Weather Permitting
We have a few tents to manage things if we have just a few rain showers. If there’s a deluge, we’ll move to noon on Sunday. We can use help on Friday afternoon and on Saturday 8-3. Let Rich know if you want to help! The advertising for the sale adjusted as we get a better idea of some of the stuff donated will read:

Bedford on the Common
Sat, July 26, 9-3
75 The Great Road
Big MultiFamilyYard Sale

For the Yard Sale & Rummage

Office/home furniture, Appliances, bicycles, Books, rugs, shop & garden tools, toys, household items, lots of good stuff donated to First Parish Church Yard Sale for supporting partner village in Romania, Transylvania. PLUS several individuals setting up their own unique sales tables.. No Early Birds.
Where and When can I drop stuff off?

Bring your donations to the back lawn (along Maple Street) on Friday, July 25. We’ll be setting up until 8PM or Drop off items to the Church lower level Room L05
Out of Town for the Event? Not a problem we have a plan for you to...
For those who will be out of town and want to drop off donations from 16Jun to 24Jul, there is space reserved in room L05 lower level. The church is generally open from 9-3.

No shoes please. They just don’t sell for any reason.
Except as cited below anything else is okay, but use good sense guidelines. Things you’ve been saving for a long time and finally decided to rid yourselves of are okay. That’s why we have these sales. Experience shows if we have a good day, we’ll sell about 75% of everything we collect; roadside pickup of about half of everything else gives us about 85-90% of the stuff being passed on to other people either by sale or gift; the remaining 10% no one anywhere (at least on this week-end) wants it so we toss it into a dumpster or have it picked up by 1-800-JUNK for a fee.

To save us time and effort:

Clean items sell much better than dirty ones. Frankly, it’s amazing the gamut of what our community considers clean. Throw away a dirty 3-speed bicycle with broken spokes, flat tires, wires hanging out of it, brakes don’t work, shift is rusted closed. On Wednesdays, recycle your old out-of-date college text books, mildew covered books of any kind or paperback trashy novels. Experience tells us whomever thought years of back issues of National Geographic were valuable was wrong. A dirty, rusty gas powered lawn mower with no engine compression is junk.

A six or seven year old computer while running and adequate for standalone word processing and reading/writing email is not going to sell at a yard sale for enough money to make it worth your/our while to handle it. BUT, a small footprint 1000Mhz, 40 gig or so disk, USB port laptop that you replaced two years ago will sell for $50-$100. Bring it in.

Heavy stand alone speakers with no system to drive them will be heavy even in the dumpster. Big, heavy, old TV’s, are hazardous waste when you bring them to a yard sale. We have to call BFI and have them pick it up. We’d rather you do that.

Dot matrix printers and heavy old laser printers are good for your kids or grand kids to tear apart and use the parts in experiments. The pieces and parts I dutifully retrieved through the 80’s and 90’s were shunned by my grandchildren when they became old enough to use them in their experiments…they didn’t do experiments. Many of the parts became real working parts in Odyssey of the Mind projects. Keep them for OMers in you lives.
